In a series where just about every Chico State softball player who carried a bat to the plate produced positive results, Hailey Stockman had a weekend for the ages as the Wildcats combined for 57 runs and 69 hits against Humboldt State. The senior catcher launched five home runs – including two grand slams in one game – and drove in 18 runs to lead the ’Cats to three wins in four tries versus the Lumberjacks in Arcata. The latest – and loudest – of her frequent fence-busting performances has earned Stockman Wildcat of the Week recognition.

For the series, Stockman batted .529 with nine hits, six for extra bases. She homered and drove in at least two runs in each of the four weekend games, while also reaching base 14 times, scoring nine runs, stealing a base and catching all 28 innings of the marathon four-game set that saw both teams combine to score 102 runs and bang out 120 hits. Stockton posted a .636 on-base percentage and 1.471 slugging percentage in the series.

In game one of Friday’s series-opening doubleheader, won by Humboldt 16-9, Stockman went 1-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. In the 10-inning nightcap, which was halted by darkness late Friday and not completed until Sunday morning, Stockman delivered three hits in five at-bats, blasted another homer and racked up four RBI while reaching base six times and scoring three runs as the ’Cats piled up 29 hits in a 24-15 victory.

In Sunday’s regularly scheduled twinbill – pushed back a day due to wet weather – Stockman carried the ’Cats in game one, driving in eight runs with two grand slams in Chico State’s 9-7 win over Humboldt. Stockman finished the day with a 3-for-4 performance, smashing her fifth homer of the weekend, knocking in two and scoring three times as the Wildcats outslugged the Lumberjacks 15-7 to win the series.

Stockman enters this weekend’s action at University Softball Field against Cal State Stanislaus batting .422 on the season, and ranks among the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) leaders with six home runs and 23 RBI. She leads the CCAA in slugging percentage (.956), and is second in the conference in runs scored (20), fourth in total bases (43) and fifth in on-base percentage (.556). In just 65 games as a Wildcat, Stockman has posted a career .392 batting average and already ranks third in school history in home runs (15) and 10th in RBI (61).
