Dustin Miller was a hitting machine Sunday. The senior banged out six hits in eight at-bats in a doubleheader against San Francisco State to earn Wildcat of the Week honors.
Â
Miller sprayed the ball all around the yard—a single to left field, a single up the middle, two singles to right, and two base hits through the right side—to raise his batting average to .435. He currently ranks fourth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in batting average and on-base percentage (.552).
Â
The senior has made a smooth transition to first base this season after spending last year as the team's everyday center fielder. He completed 17 chances without an error Sunday and is now fielding .982 on the season.
Â
Miller was in the middle of nearly every Wildcats' rally Sunday. He singled home Alex DeVito as the tying run in the fifth inning of the first game. And his single up the middle in the eighth pulled the Wildcats within a run.
Â
He immediately picked up where he left off in the second game, singling as part of a four-run uprising in the first inning. His base hit in the second looked as though it would load the bases, though a poor throw back into the infield allowed Eddie Zavala to tear around third and score.
Â
Miller came up clutch again in the sixth, singling through the right side to pull the Wildcats within a run. He drove in three runs on the day and also drew a walk.
Â
Miller and the Wildcats are back in action this weekend when they host Cal State Monterey Bay for a four-game series starting with a doubleheader Friday at 1 p.m.
