To be awarded in Spring 2026

The 1971 Wildcats set the school record with a 9-1 regular-season record, and though they suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Boise State in the Camellia Bowl, which decided the champion of the West Region, the team is still remembered as the standard by which all other Chico State football seasons are measured. The Wildcats outscored their opponents 366-132 and earned a share of the Far Western Conference title under Head Coach Pete Riehlman, who was named the conference’s Coach of the Year. The 1971 Camellia Bowl Football Team was inducted into the Chico State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011. This scholarship was established to honor the legacy of those coaches and alumni in supporting today's Chico State student-athletes in pursuit of athletic and academic excellence.”
