Chico State designated hitter Alex DeVito is playing like a man determined to finish his collegiate career with a flourish.
The Wildcat of the Week went 8-for-16 with three doubles, three RBI, and five runs scored during the Wildcats' four-game sweep of rival Sonoma State that put them on the doorstep of a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament berth.
DeVito went 3-for-4 with double, a run scored, and RBI in Friday's opener; 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Saturday's first game; 1-of-3 with a run scored in Saturday's nightcap; and 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and two RBIs in the series finale.
The 2018 First Team All-CCAA and First Team All-Region selection is now slashing .346/.443/.519, all team highs, and also paces the Wildcats with five home runs and 30 RBIs. DeVito has been hit by pitches 15 times—tops in the conference—and ranks ninth in the CCAA in on-base percentage.
Earlier in the week, DeVito was nominated for Google Cloud Academic All-America honors.
Just one win away from locking up a spot in the CCAA Championships, DeVito and the Wildcats will be on the road this weekend for a doubleheader at San Francisco State Friday at noon, and then wrap up the regular season with a doubleheader at Stanislaus State Saturday at 1 p.m.
