The Chico State women's basketball team has had precious little time to savor its weekend success. Less than 72 hours after going 2-0 in the Carl's Jr. Coslet Classic, the Wildcats—shooting for their fifth straight victory—return to the hardwood Tuesday for a non-conference tilt against Fresno Pacific. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Acker Gym.
Fans unable to attend the game can follow the action via Live Stats through the Wildcat Athletics website. Live streaming video is also available.
The Wildcats, 4-1 on the season, have not lost since dropping their 2016–17 season opener November 11 against Dominican University. Chico State won its two Coslet Classic contests over the weekend, downing Western Oregon 70-67 Friday and Dixie State 65-55 on Saturday, extending the 'Cats winning streak in the annual tournament to 14 dating back to 2008–09.
Whitney Branham and Natalie Valenzuela have provided the bulk of the Wildcats' offense so far this season. Branham, the Coslet Classic Tournament MVP, is averaging a team-high 16.0 points per game and has connected for 14 3-pointers, with Valenzuela—named to the Coslet Classic All-Tournament Team—is averaging 14.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest.
Fresno Pacific, a member of the Pacific West Conference, enters Tuesday's clash with the 'Cats 0-3 on the season. The Sunbirds began the season with losses to Seattle Pacific and Western Washington, and battled Cal State Monterey Bay last Friday before falling to the Otters 68-56.
The Sunbirds are led by sophomore guard Bree Alvarez, averaging 14.0 points a game.
Dating back to the 2012-13 season, the Wildcats are 12-2 against schools in the PacWest Conference.
The Sunbirds hold a 4-2 lead in the all-time series between the two teams. Last season, Fresno Pacific beat the Wildcats 66-64 on December 8, 2015.
Tuesday's game will be Chico State final pre-conference tune-up. The Wildcats will open California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play Thursday, December 1 on the road against UC San Diego.
