WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Chico State Wildcats have found out who their first-round opponent will be in the CCAA Championship Tournament. The conference released the officials seedings Saturday, and the ’Cats will travel to southern California to take on the Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona this Tuesday, March 3. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Kellogg Gymnasium.
Pomona’s fourth place finish in the CCAA during the regular season earned the Broncos (16-13 overall, 12-8 in conference play) the first round home game. The Wildcats (15-12 on the season, 11-9 CCAA) will need to go deep into the Championship Tournament for a chance to earn a seventh straight NCAA Division II West Regional berth.
The Wildcats and Broncos split the season series – Chico beat Pomona on the road 55-47 Jan. 2, while the Broncos bested the ’Cats 59-51 Feb. 7 at Acker Gym.

The CCAA Championship Tournament will open on March 3, at the site of the top four seeds. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, March 6, at Coussoulis Arena on the campus of Cal State San Bernardino. The championship game will take place on Saturday, March 7 at 5 p.m.
Besides the Wildcats-Broncos matchup, the other three first-round games Tuesday feature regular season conference champ UC San Diego (26-3, 19-1) hosting No. 8 seed Cal State San Bernardino (10-16, 8-12), No. 2 Humboldt State (21-6, 16-4) entertaining No. 7 Cal State San Stanislaus (13-14, 8-12), and No. 3 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills (18-9, 13-7) hosting No. 6 San Francisco State (14-13, 8-12).
