CHICO, Calif. – Christine Vest poured in a career-high 23 points, grabbed six rebounds, and snared three steals to lead the Chico State women’s basketball team to a 68-47 victory over Alaska Fairbanks in the final game of the 36th annual Carl’s Jr. Coslet Classic Saturday night at Acker Gym. Vest, who was named to the All-Tournament team, made 8-of-12 shots from the field and all seven of her free throws while recording a steal and just one turnover in 31 minutes.
Cory Edwards

Chico State, which improved to 2-1 with the win, forced Fairbanks into 27 turnovers and turned those into 26 points. Alaska Fairbanks fell to 1-3 with the loss.

A bit overshadowed by Vest’s career-best game was a solid effort by Wildcats senior Cory Edwards. In just the third start of her four-year career, Edwards filled the stat sheet with seven points, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a blocked shot. Melissa Richardson chipped in nine points, two assists and two steals. True freshman point guard Synchro Bull also playd well, finishing with seven points, four rebounds, three assists, and a pair of thefts.

The Wildcats now have a two-week break before opening California Collegiate Athletic Association play at Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State Dec. 5-6.
