Chico State center fielder and leadoff hitter Cody Foster was the catalyst for the Wildcats' offense in a season opening four-game sweep of Saint Martin's over the weekend. Foster hit .429, scored five runs, and drove in five more while reaching base at a .556 clip to earn Wildcat of the Week honors.
The senior (Ohlone CC), who notched a double and a triple, was hit by pitches four times and stole a base. His two-run single Sunday broke a 1-1 tie in a 3-1 win.
He went 1-for-3, was hit by a pitch, and scored twice during the Wildcats' 7-2 season opening win on Friday night. Foster reached base five times in six plate appearances during a 14-6 win to open Saturday's twinbill. He was 2-for-3 with a three-run double, stolen base, and scored twice. He was also hit by pitches on three occasions. In Saturday's nightcap, Foster went 1-for-4 with a triple that set him up to score a run. And Foster finished the weekend going 2-for-4 and delivered the game-winning two-run single Sunday in the seventh.
That marked his 13th straight game, dating back to last season, with a hit. Foster will try to continue that streak this weekend in La Jolla when the Wildcats face UC San Diego for a four-game conference-opening series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
