Chico State women’s cross country runner Jonah Weeks has seemed to develop a habit of saving her best races for when it really counts. Last year, Weeks placed 13th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships, and Saturday the sophomore from Davis once again turned in her finest effort with the conference title at stake, finishing third to help the Wildcats take their third straight CCAA championship and seventh in the last nine years. In addition to earning All-CCAA honors with Saturday’s run, Weeks picks up the Wildcat of the Week award.
The second of nine Chico State runners to finish in the top 10, Weeks completed the 6k course at Whittier Narrows Regional Park in South El Monte with a time of 21:46.7, trailing only teammate Kara Lubieniecki and second place finisher Tiffany Dinh of Cal Poly Pomona.
Weeks and the No. 5-ranked Wildcats (No. 2 in the West Region) now move on to the NCAA West Regionals in Bellingham, Wash.
