The Chico State women’s basketball team has been knocking down 3-pointers in large numbers of late – in fact, the Wildcats have buried 43 treys in their last five games, and have hit at least six 3-point buckets in their last six contests. One of the hottest ’Cats from behind the arc is Courtney Harrison, and in helping Chico State split its two games over the weekend, the junior guard connected on seven of her 12 3-point attempts, scoring a combined 25 points while adding eight rebounds, four assists and a steal as the Wildcats improved to 10-2 on the season. Harrison’s heroics from long distance have netted her the Wildcat of the Week award.

Chico State shot just 35 percent in Friday’s 73-53 loss to UC San Diego, but Harrison had no trouble finding the bottom of the net, hitting five of seven from the field – including all three of her 3-point attempts – and led the Wildcats with 13 points, while also contributing three rebounds and two assists. Harrison delivered another productive effort Saturday against Cal State East Bay, draining 4-of-9 from 3-point range to finish with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal as the ’Cats thumped the visiting Pioneers 74-47.

Harrison, who is fifth on the Wildcats in scoring (averaging 7.7 points a game), has 21 3-pointers on the season, tying her with Taylor Lydon for the team lead. She also made a little history over the weekend – with her seven 3-pointers, Harrison has 46 treys as a Wildcat. Her career 3-point shooting percentage now stands at 41.8 – currently the best percentage of any Chico State women’s basketball player in school history with at least 40 successful 3-point shots.

The Wildcats head to southern California this weekend for two very important conference matchups. Cal State San Bernardino hosts the ’Cats on Friday, Jan. 14, followed by a trip to Kellogg Gymnasium Saturday the 15th to face Cal Poly Pomona. Tipoff for both games are slated for 5:30 p.m.
