Chico State junior forward Malik Duffy has staked his claim as perhaps the deadliest outside shooter in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) this season. And in the Wildcats' final regular-season home weekend, he was at the top of his game.
Â
Duffy shot 58 percent from the field, including 55% from 3-point range, while averaging 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game in the Wildcats' two crucial wins last week to earn Wildcat of the Week accolades.
Â
Duffy needed only seven shots to score a team-high 16 points in Chico State's 80-69 win against San Francisco State that wrapped up a first-round CCAA Tournament home game for the Wildcats. He hit all three of his 3-point attempts, all three of his free throws, and shot 5-for-7 overall, while chipping in three rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
Â
The product of Sacramento's Jesuit High School scored a team-high 21 points in Saturday's 77-58 victory against Sonoma State that secured Chico State's sixth 20-win season in the past seven years. Duffy shot 6-of-12 from the floor, 3-of-8 from 3-point range, and 6-of-6 from the line while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out a pair of assists.
Â
Duffy leads the CCAA with a 3-point field percentage of .483 that would rank second in the nation if he had enough made threes to qualify. (The minimum is 2.5 makes per game and Malik is currently at 2.15.) He is also shooting 85% from the free throw line and 55% from the field.
The Wildcats wrap up the regular season this week at Humboldt State (Thursday) and Stanislaus State (Saturday) before returning home for a first-round CCAA Tournament game Tuesday night.
