ALISO VIEJO, Calif. -Â For the third consecutive week, a member of the Chico State baseball team has claimed the conference's weekly honor, as right-hander Jack Tews was named the FloCollege/CCAA Pitcher of the Week.
Tews, a freshman from Granite Bay, joins Thomas Meyer (Pitcher of the Week) and Keoni Coloma (Player of the Week) as Wildcats to earn weekly recognition this season.
Making the start in Game 1 of last Saturday's non-conference doubleheader against Stanislaus State, Tews delivered a dominant outing. He threw seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out three. The right-hander limited the Warriors to singles, stranded all scoring threats, and protected an early 1–0 lead throughout his outing.
Although he did not factor into the decision, Chico State secured the 3–1 victory with a decisive eighth-inning rally.
Tews has now started four of his five appearances this season and holds a 2–0 record with 21.1 innings pitched. He ranks seventh in the CCAA with a 1.27 earned-run average and eighth in innings pitched. He has recorded 10 strikeouts while issuing just three walks.
Chico State continues its 21-game homestand this weekend while opening CCAA play against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The four-game series begins Friday at 2 p.m.
