CHICO, Calif. – The Chico State baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Highway 99 rival Stanislaus State on Saturday at Nettleton Stadium, edging the Warriors 3–1 in the opener before falling 7–1 in the seven-inning nightcap.
The Wildcats move to 11–7 on the season.
Wildcat Standouts
Jack Tews – Tossed 7.0 shutout innings in game one, allowing three hits and striking out three.
Manny Lopez – Earned the win in relief in game one with 1.2 scoreless innings and two strikeouts.
Myles Walton – Reached base three times in game two and scored twice in the opener, helping ignite the offense.
Game 1 – Chico State 3, Stanislaus State 1
Chico State manufactured an early run in the first inning when Walton walked, advanced on a sacrifice bunt, stole third, and scored on Jackson Snitko's RBI groundout.
Tews kept Stanislaus State off the board through seven innings, scattering three hits and working efficiently through traffic. The Warriors tied the game in the eighth on a double and a sacrifice bunt sequence before Chico State answered immediately in the bottom half.
Myles Cooper delivered a pinch-hit single to spark the rally, Walton followed with an infield single, and Keoni Coloma lined an RBI single to right field to put the Wildcats back in front. Snitko added his second RBI groundout of the game to provide the insurance run.
Lopez closed the door in the ninth to secure the win.
Game 2 – Stanislaus State 7, Chico State 1 (7 innings)
Stanislaus State broke through in the third inning and added a solo home run in the fifth to build a 2–0 lead.
Chico State answered in the fourth when Michael Baker scored on a throwing error to cut the deficit to 2–1.
The Warriors erupted for five runs in the seventh inning, capitalizing on walks, hit batters and timely hits to pull away.
Rocco Borrelli started for the Wildcats and allowed one run over three innings, while Tyler Eastham and Jaden Neugenbauer handled the middle frames before the late surge.
