Wildcats showcase its talented roster at Kim Duyst Invitational

Chico State men’s track & field team excels Friday and Saturday in Turlock as season shifts into full swing

Based on its collective performance Friday and Saturday at the Stanislaus State-hosted Kim Duyst Invitational, there's plenty of reasons to be excited about the Chico State men's track & field team as the 2023 season officially unfolds. The Wildcats descended upon Turlock en masse and came away with many outstanding early-season efforts, including six personal best marks and a generous handful of top three event finishes at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium.

Several Wildcat athletes excelled in multiple events during the Kim Duyst Invitational. Of particular note is Vincent Rinaldi, who won the 200-meter dash competition with a time of 22.21 seconds; finished fourth in the 100-meter dash (10.88 seconds), and teamed with Colton Cummings, Demetre Coffey, and Bryan Payne to place third in the 4x100-meter relay (42.33 seconds).

Parker Williams, an All-CCAA and All-West Region performer in 2022, placed second Saturday in the 110-meter hurdles (14.59 seconds) and third in the 400-meter hurdles (53.75 seconds).

Williams also combined with Calvin Igbanoi, Demetre Coffey, and Ty Thomson to take top honors in the 4x400-relay, stopping the clock at 3:15.46.

Payne was the Wildcats' highest finisher in the long jump, placing third with a personal best distance of 6.81 meters.

Five other PR marks were posted by the 'Cats at the Kim Duyst Invitational. On Friday, Bryant Williams registered a personal best distance of 14.19 meters on the way to a second place finish in the shot put. Adrian Barrios notched a PR in the discus—his mark of 35.92 meters was good for 14th place overall.
