Another challenging day for ’Cats at Visit Stockton Invitational

Chico State women’s golf shoots final round 342 to finish first spring tournament in 19th place

The Chico State women's golf team was hoping that Tuesday's final round of the RJGA Visit Stockton Invitational would be a marked improvement over the previous day's 18-hole results. It was not to be, however, as the Wildcats once again wrestled with a challenging Brookside Country Club course. The addition of gusty winds did not help matters, as the 'Cats carded a collective 54-over par 342 to finish the two-day tournament in 19th place with a final score of 103-over 679.

For the second straight day, Taylor Stewart posted the Wildcats' low individual score. Her final round 84 earned Stewart sole possession of 73rd place with a 36-hole total of 22-over par 166.

After shooting an opening round 83, Kelsey Blaylock came back Tuesday to score an 85, and finished the Visit Stockton Invitational tied for 76th place overall with a 24-over par 168.

Trinity Hernandez survived a shaky start to her Tuesday round, eventually notching a birdie while carding an 85 to finish tied for 89th place with a score of 28-over par 172.

Kelly More rounded out the Wildcats' team scorecard with a 91 Tuesday, earning a share of 101st place with a 36-hole score of 34-over par 178. Melanie Anderson, playing for Chico State as an individual, also shot a 91 over the final 18 holes to finish at 34-over 178 and in a tie for 101st place overall.

Texas A&M International and West Texas A&M tied for top honors at the RJGA Visit Stockton Invitational, with both teams finishing at 34-over par 610. Cal State San Marcos was four strokes back in third place at 38-over 614, while Arkansas-Fort Smith and Biola shared fourth place at 48-over 624.

Breann Horn of Cal State San Marcos claimed medalist honors, finishing atop the individual leaderboard with a 36-hole score of 3-over par 147, one shot better than runner-ups Lorenza Perini of West Texas A&M and Ebba Wernered of Holy Names.

The Wildcats will be in the Bay Area next Monday and Tuesday, taking part in the Bay Area Invitational, hosted by Cal State East Bay. The two-day, 36-hole tournament will take place at the Callippe Preserve Golf Course in Pleasanton.
