Final Round Tests Field as Wildcats Conclude CCAA Championships

| By:

STOCKTON, Calif. – Chico State concluded the CCAA Women's Golf Championships on Wednesday with a 336 in the final round, finishing fifth overall with a 54-hole total of 993 (+129) at The Reserve at Spanos Park.

After opening the tournament with rounds of 330 and 327, the Wildcats entered the final day having established consistency despite challenging conditions. Monday's opening round tested the field with difficult pin placements, while Tuesday's second round required resilience as play was suspended for nearly four hours due to lightning before resuming in rain and wind. Chico State responded with its best round of the tournament (327), positioning itself to maintain ground heading into Wednesday.

The final round, however, presented a different challenge.

The course was extended to 6,011 yards—its longest setup of the week—and produced a field scoring average of 79.56, the highest of the tournament. In contrast, the first two rounds played to averages of 77.92 and 78.88, underscoring a clear shift in difficulty.

Chico State's 336 reflected that change, as the final round demanded a higher level of precision and limited opportunities to recover from mistakes. Across the lineup, the Wildcats saw an increase in high numbers compared to the opening two rounds, particularly on key swing holes early and late in the round.

Despite the tougher conditions, Gabriella Fanucchi provided a steady presence, carding an 81 (+9) to lead the team for the second time in three rounds and finish tied for 20th overall at +28. The freshman delivered consistent scoring throughout the tournament, posting rounds of 81-82-81.

Brooke Pelletier finished tied for 21st at +30 (84-79-83), building off a strong second round in which she settled into rhythm and played her final 15 holes at 3-over par. In the final round, she remained competitive but faced a more punishing setup that limited scoring opportunities.

Hollyn Drennen placed 22nd at +32 (82-81-85), carrying over the steady mindset she emphasized throughout the tournament. After navigating weather delays and difficult conditions in Round 2, the sophomore again showed composure, though the increased course difficulty in the final round made it harder to convert scoring chances.

Sienna Garcia (86-87-87) and Lillian Crays (83-85-92) rounded out the lineup, both finishing tied for 24th at +44. Garcia maintained consistency across all three rounds, while Crays, who had been steady through the first two days, encountered a more volatile final round as the course tightened.

Statistically, the final round separated itself from the rest of the tournament. The par-3 13th played nearly a full stroke over par (+0.96), while the finishing stretch—particularly holes 17 and 18—ranked among the most difficult on the course. Unlike earlier rounds, where players were able to string together pars and occasional birdies, Round 3 saw fewer scoring opportunities and an increase in bogeys and double bogeys across the field.
