When the Chico State men's soccer team found itself with a scoring opportunity during the 2022 season, chances were good that Adrian Fontanelli would somehow be involved. The junior midfielder was a constant presence on the pitch this fall, logging well over 1,600 minutes of playing time and serving as a key cog to the Wildcats' 7-5-8 record and the program reaching the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament for the sixth straight season. His outstanding efforts have been recognized by the United Soccer Coaches (USC) organization, which named Fontanelli Second Team All-West Region for the just-completed 2022 campaign.
The Second Team All-West Region selection is the second postseason honor Fontanelli has earned in 2022. The Bay Area native received Second Team All-CCAA accolades in November.
Fontanelli scored four goals in 2022—two of them match winners—and doled out one assist to rank third on the team in goals and points (nine). With the exception of goalkeeper Luis Albarran, Fontanelli played more minutes (1,667) than any other Wildcats player this fall.
Fontanelli becomes the first Chico State men's soccer player to earn All-West Region honors since the 2019 season, when Garrett Hogbin, Jacob Chong, and Jose Paredes were all recognized by the United Soccer Coaches.
