Wildcats Drop Sunday Match in Merced in Closing Seconds

MERCED, Calif. – UC Merced broke through late to hand Chico State a 1–0 defeat on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025, at Bobcat Field. With the loss, the Wildcats fell to 3-6-4 overall (1-3-3 CCAA), while the Bobcats improved to 2-8-3 (1-5-1 CCAA).

How it happened

In a tightly contested match, neither side managed to find the back of the net until the closing moments. UC Merced's Jake Perkins scored the game-winner in the 90th minute, finishing off a pass from Christian Gallo to lift the hosts to victory.

Chico State generated 14 total shots and seven on goal, but UC Merced goalkeeper Abel Calvillo made seven saves to record the shutout.

The Wildcats saw strong play from Michael Gray, who led the team with two shots on goal, while Weston Joyner kept the Wildcats close with four saves between the posts.
