It was an up-and-down preseason for the Chico State men's soccer team. The Wildcats beat then 11
th-ranked Seattle Pacific and earned a draw at Point Loma. But they also lost a 1-0 decision against Western Washington in match they dominated, and are coming off a 2-1 road loss to California Baptist.
That's all in the rearview mirror now. The Wildcats (1-2-1) begin their quest for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) title with games at San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay this weekend.
Prior to that, San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay will lock horns Wednesday afternoon.
The Wildcats face San Francisco State Friday at 12:30. The Gators, 3-1-0, have won three straight heading into Wednesday's match against Cal State Monterey Bay, outscoring their opponents 8-0 during that stretch.
From there, the Wildcats will travel to Seaside to face Cal State Monterey Bay. The Otters are off to a 2-1-0 start.
Chico State's Omar Nuño leads the CCAA with four goals. But he's the only Wildcat to score thus far. Rajaee DeLane seems close to breaking through and leads the conference in shots per game (4.75). Nuño ranks fourth at 4.00.
