On the road again and looking for redemption

Men’s soccer team attempting to turn the tide away from home this weekend

Life on the road has thus far been unkind to the 2016 Chico State men's soccer team. But heading into their final weekend road trip of the regular season, the Wildcats are hoping to ride the wave of positive momentum they've built over the last two weeks to a couple of good results.

The top six teams in the conference standings at the end of the regular season will advance to the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament. Chico State has certainly played like a postseason team of late, and the Wildcats are confident they can do some damage if they earn the chance. They took on four straight teams in first or second place in the CCAA standings over the last two weekends and went 3-1-0. Two of those victories came against teams ranked among the nation's top-20 teams, giving them three  such wins this season.

But those came at University Soccer Stadium. This weekend, they'll attempt to match that effort and level of play.

Chico State, 0-3-3 on the road this season, is at Stanislaus State Friday at 4:30 and Cal State East Bay Sunday at 2 p.m. After that, they come home for their final two regular season matches.

Sitting in a tie for seventh place in the CCAA standings with 11 points at 4-5-3 overall and 3-3-2 in the CCAA, the Wildcats are aware of their need to pile up more points over these last two weekends to give themselves a shot at the postseason (teams receive three for a win and one for a tie).

Stanislaus State and Cal State East Bay also have work to do if they are to challenge for a postseason berth. The Warriors are just 1-7-3 and 0-6-0 in conference play. Cal State East Bay is 5-6-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the CCAA.

Fans can keep track of the action via livestats. Links are in the calendar section on the homepage and men's soccer schedule page. Streaming video will also be available for Friday's match. The standard definition video stream is free. An HD version can be purchased from Cal State Stanislaus for $6.95.
