The Chico State men's soccer team will start a brand new California Collegiate Athletic Association campaign against some old rivals this weekend. Chico State opens CCAA play at Humboldt State Friday at 3 p.m. and then heads south to face Sonoma State Sunday at 2 p.m.

Chico State, Humboldt State and Sonoma State were all part of the Far Western Conference before leaving to join the Northern California Athletic Conference in the late 1990s. Eventually, all three landed in the CCAA.
The only programs the Wildcats have faced more are San Francisco State and UC Davis. Chico State is 46-14-6 all time against Humboldt State and 25-31-5 against Sonoma State.
The last team in the conference to start its conference slate, Chico State went 2-2-1 in non-conference games. The Wildcats are unbeaten in their last three matches and they've won their last two.
Chico State was picked to finish sixth by the conference's coaches in the annual preseason poll. Sonoma State was picked to finish eighth and Humboldt State ninth.
Humboldt State enters the weekend with a record of 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the CCAA. Sonoma State is 5-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play after beating Humboldt State 2-1 Wednesday in Arcata, netting the game winner 6:06 into overtime.
