Ajeakwa jams home game winner for unbeaten ’Cats

Wildcats post third shutout in four matches

Box Score Akwafei Ajeakwa kept getting himself into dangerous positions. It felt more a matter of when he would score than if. Finally, the 56th minute, Ajeakwa put himself into a position from which he couldn't miss, and when Patrick Lee connected with him on a cross, Ajeakwa directed it into the back of the net for the game-winning goal in Chico State's 1-0 win against Saint Martin's Sunday afternoon at University Soccer Stadium.

The 16th-ranked Wildcats (3-0-1) logged their third shutout in four matches while outshooting the guests 20-5. Freshman goalkeeper Luke Dennison notched a trio of saves and has allowed only one goal in his first four collegiate matches.

Ajeakwa hit the post earlier in the match after missing wide on a penalty kick. He finished with seven shots, outshooting Saint Martin's by himself, including four of which were on goal.

Lee logged his fourth assist in four collegiate matches. Another freshman, Carter Johnson, was pulled down in the box by the goalkeeper to set up the Wildcats' penalty kick.

The Wildcats will hit the road for the first time this season next weekend when they travel to Arcata for the Lumberjack Classic hosted by Humboldt State. They'll play BYU-Hawaii Thursday and Holy Names Saturday.
