Box Score TURLOCK – The Chico State men's soccer team's challenging four-game road trip to open the season is over and the Wildcats are coming home happy as can be. Jordan Gorman, J.P. Medina and Matt Hurlow scored and Luis Martinez doled out a pair of assists in a 3-1 win at Cal State Stanislaus Sunday pushing the 18th-ranked Wildcats to 4-0.
Chico State outshot Cal State Stanislaus 14-6 in dominating a rematch of last season's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament Championship match.
The Wildcats are now 2-0 in CCAA action, while Cal State Stanislaus slid to 1-2-1 overall and 0-2 in the CCAA.
Cal State Stanislaus struck for the game's first goal in the 23rd minute. Chico State goalkeeper James Stroud saved a penalty kick, but Carlos Gavino rebounded his own miss home with a diving header.
Gorman knotted the match 1-1 eight minutes later when he gathered home Octavio Guzman's deflected free kick and pounded it into the back of the net.
The Wildcats took the lead for good in the seventh minute of the second stanza when Hurlow took a feed from Martinez and smashed it home. They added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute. This time Martinez hit Medina in stride on a run from the top-right corner of the box and he slid it home for his team-leading second goal.
The Wildcats will at last get to play in front of the home fans this Friday when they host UC San Diego (2-1-1, 0-1-1 CCAA) at 4:30. They'll host Cal Poly Pomona Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
