South Division title on line this weekend

Wildcats can clinch at least a share with two wins

Three teams enter the final weekend of the regular season in the running for the California Collegiate Athletic Association South Division title. It remains to be seen which one, or even how many, will arise as champion(s).

But only Chico State has a chance to win its fourth straight CCAA division title. The Wildcats won three CCAA North Division championships in a row before taking a turn in the South Division this season.

Chico State and UC San Diego enter the final weekend of the regular season tied for first with 32 points, while Cal State L.A. sits in third just one point back.

The Wildcats are on the road at Cal State San Bernardino Friday at 12:30 p.m. and Cal State Monterey Bay Sunday at 11:30 a.m. They'll keep an eye on the scoreboard when not playing. UC San Diego is at Cal Poly Pomona Friday at 4:30 while Cal State L.A. takes on Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday night at 7. UC San Diego hosts Cal State L.A. Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

Whatever the results, all three teams will be playing in the CCAA Championship Tournament in Turlock Nov. 8-10, and will also likely advance to the NCAA Championship Tournament the following weekend.

Cal State L.A. enters the weekend ranked No. 1 in the West Region. Chico State is No. 2 and UC San Diego is No. 3. Six teams in all will be chosen to represent the West in the national tournament.
