The Chico State men’s soccer team has held its postseason destiny in its own hands since the end of September. Friday the Wildcats can drive home from Turlock with their third consecutive California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) North Division title with a win or tie against Cal State Stanislaus.
It will mark the end of the regular season for the Wildcats who lead the Warriors in the race for the division title by five points with an overall record of 9-2-4 overall and 8-1-4 in the CCAA. Cal State Stanislaus (9-3-2, 7-3-2 CCAA) will finish its regular season at home against Sonoma State Sunday and would need consecutive wins to wrestle the title away from the Wildcats.
Chico State beat Cal State Stanislaus 2-0 on Sept. 28 in Chico near the beginning of the Wildcats’ current 11-match unbeaten streak. A win or tie Friday would not only clinch the Wildcats’ third straight title, but it would also give them their longest unbeaten streak (12) since 1978 and match the fourth longest in program history.
The match could have NCAA Championship Tournament implications. The Wildcats are currently ranked No. 4 in the West Region and Cal State Stanislaus, winner of five of its last six, is No. 8. On Nov. 5 at 4 p.m., the top six teams in the region will be awarded NCAA Championship Tournament berths, an honor the Wildcats have enjoyed in each of the last two seasons and 15 times in the program’s history.
Links to live stats for each match will be available on the Chico State Athletics home page and the men's soccer home page. Live stats and a pay-to-view video stream without audio ($9.95 for a one-day "pass") will be available at
