Chico State Athletics

Kara Lubieniecki was one of Chico State’s most accomplished distance runners during her career from 2007-11, earning four All-America honors across cross country and track & field.

Lubieniecki was the 2010 CCAA Cross Country champion and earned three All-West Region honors. On the track, she was a two-time CCAA champion in the 1,500 meters and capped her collegiate career by setting a Chico State school record in the event. Altogether, she earned eight All-CCAA honors and was a member of four Chico State teams that competed at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.

Her success extended beyond athletics. Lubieniecki graduated in 2011 as a President’s Scholar with a degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology and later qualified for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials.

She went on to study Integrative Physiology at the University of Colorado Boulder and earned a master’s degree in Physician Associate Studies from Stanford. Today, Lubieniecki lives in Colorado with her husband Alex McGuirk, a Chico State men’s cross country/track & field alumnus and a two-time All-American in the steeplechase, and their two daughters, and works in primary care as a physician associate.
