Chico State Athletics

Gillian (née Heydorff) Sutton was one of Chico State volleyball’s most productive and versatile players during her four-year career from 2006-09. She earned All-CCAA honors three times, including first team selections in 2008 and 2009, and was named second-team Daktronics All-West Region as a senior.

Sutton made an immediate impact as a freshman, earning both the 2006 CCAA Freshman of the Year and AVCA West Region Freshman of the Year awards. She finished her career with 1,204 kills, then the second-most in program history, while also setting the school record with 138 career service aces and ranking third all-time with 1,507 digs. Her 422 kills in 2009 remain among Chico State’s top single-season performances.

Since graduating, Sutton has built a successful career in commercial real estate and currently serves as a Senior Managing Director with Newmark, leading its Construction Management Group across Southern California.

She lives in Pasadena with her husband, Robin, and their sons, Robby and Stevie, and remains close with many of her former Chico State teammates.
