Just about every team possesses a specialist or two – someone who excels in one specific aspect of the game. Then there are the players who do a number of things well and contribute to the team's success in a variety of ways. Brooke Bowen is certainly one of the latter, providing the Chico State women's basketball team with consistent scoring, rebounding muscle and solid defense. The junior from Vancouver, Wash., had her many talents on full display Friday and Saturday to help the 'Cats split a pair at Acker Gym. Her outstanding efforts make Bowen the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Bowen averaged 11.5 points over the two weekend contests while chalking up seven rebounds, one assist, one block and a steal. She shot 42.1 percent from the field (8-for-19) and hit six of eight from the free throw line to bolster the Wildcats' offensive attack.
Friday Bowen was one of four Chico State players scoring in double figures, posting 14 points and pulling down four rebounds as the Wildcats upended UC San Diego 76-70. The 'Cats fell to Cal Poly Pomona Saturday, but Bowen came through with nine points and three boards in 25 minutes of action.
Bowen is currently averaging 9.8 points per game in her first season as a Wildcat and leads the team with 5.5 rebounds a contest.
Bowen and the Wildcats begin a four-game road swing this week, traveling to Southern California Thursday to take on Cal State San Bernardino, then head north to Arcata to battle CCAA co-leader Humboldt State on Saturday.
