Freshman Megan Bowley joined the Chico State softball team with the reputation of being a prolific high school hitter. As the Wildcats opened the 2016 season, Bowley quickly demonstrated that she is just as productive at the collegiate level. The Corona native hit safely in all four weekend games, racking up six hits and driving in a run in each contest to help the 'Cats win three out of four. Bowley's impressive Chico State debut makes her the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Â
Bowley batted a combined .667 (6-for-9) over the weekend, posting a .778 slugging percentage and .700 on-base percentage. She was one of eight Wildcats to hit .300 or better as they opened the season with a doubleheader split against Academy of Art and a twin bill sweep of Dominican.
Â
Bowley's first career at-bat as a Wildcat was a pinch-hit RBI single in Saturday's doubleheader opener against Academy of Art. In game two, she started in right field and went 1-for-3, scoring three runs and driving in another as Chico State torched the Urban Knights 14-1.
Â
Sunday against Dominican, Bowley drove in the go-ahead run in game one of the twinbill, with the Wildcats going on to win 5-3. In the nightcap she went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored as Chico State completed the doubleheader sweep with a 6-1 victory.
Â
Bowley and the Wildcats begin California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play this weekend, traveling to Rohnert Park to take on Sonoma State. The four-game series features doubleheaders Friday and Saturday starting at noon each day. Â
