Through the first two months of the 2016 season, Cyrena Taylor has quietly put up some impressive numbers for the Chico State softball team. Well, that's if you call hitting well over .300 and cranking out a dozen extra-base hits quiet. Taylor's teammates – and the rest of the California Collegiate Athletic Association, for that matter – know how valuable she is to the Wildcats' offensive attack, and her contributions were on full display in Turlock as the 'Cats took three of four from host Stanislaus State. Taylor's torrid hitting during the series makes her the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Â
Taylor batted .615 (8-for-13) with four extra-base hits and four runs scored in the series, reaching base 11 times in 16 plate appearances (a .688 on-base percentage) while posting a 1.077 slugging percentage.
Â
Taylor went 3-for-4 in the series opener, then racked up five hits on Saturday in the Wildcats' doubleheader sweep of the Warriors. Taylor finished the four-game set with a flourish, going 3-for-3 with a home run and two doubles in Saturday's doubleheader nightcap.
Â
Taylor is currently batting .347 on the season and ranks in the CCAA top 10 in doubles (9) and extra-base hits (12).
Â
Taylor and the Wildcats return to Turlock this weekend to compete in the three-day Tournament of Champions before resuming CCAA conference play Friday, Apr. 8 at home against Cal State Dominguez Hills. Â
