Throughout her Chico State career, Lora James has shared the spotlight with many talented Wildcat women's distance runners. But as the 2016 season unfolds, the senior is clearly front and center in the 'Cats' deep distance corps.
James turned in a career-best performance in the 800-meter run Saturday at the Sacramento State-hosted Hornet Invitational, scoring an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark while moving up Chico State's all-time top 10 list.
Her dazzling dash has also earned James the Wildcat of the Week award. Â
James posted an 800 time of 2:12.48 Saturday, good for the NCAA Provisional mark and a ninth place finish in the field of 62 at the Hornet Invitational.
Her effort resulted in the fourth fastest time in the 800 among all Division II runners so far this season.
James shaved two-tenths of a second off her previous best in the 800, and now ranks seventh on Chico State's career top 10 in the event.
James also ranks 10th in Wildcat history in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:34.46, set last April at the Azusa Pacific Brian Clay Invitational. Â
James and the Chico State women's track & field team will be back in action this Friday and Saturday, returning to the state capital to compete in the American River College Invitational.
