Throughout the first two tournaments of 2016, the Chico State women's golf team has been searching for the type of consistent play that made them one of the top Division II programs in the nation last fall. One member of the Wildcats has not only provided the solid play the team has been looking for, but stepped up her game with each succeeding tournament. Brittany O'Bryant closed out the ultra-competitive Lady Rattler Invitational Feb. 16 with a final round 74 and a career-best 14th place finish, making the freshman from Elk Grove the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Like the rest of the 'Cats, O'Bryant scuffled a bit in the opening round at The Dominion Country Club in San Antonio, shooting an 11-over par 83 as Chico State finished the day 11th in the 18-team field. The Wildcats rebounded big time in the second and final round with O'Bryant leading the way – her 2-over 74 was the team's top score as Chico State logged the best team total of the day (19-over 307) to wrap up the Lady Rattler Invitational in fifth place, besting four schools ranked in the national top 40.
O'Bryant's outstanding finish resulted in her third straight top 20 tournament finish. She closed out the fall with a 20th place showing at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational, then opened the spring with an 18th place finish at the Super San Diego Championships.
O'Bryant and the Wildcats will be back in action Mar. 6-7, teeing it up at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo as part of the Cal State East Bay Tim Tierney Shootout.
