VISTA, Calif. – The Chico State women's golf team completed play Tuesday at the Fujikura Invitational at Shadowridge Country Club, hosted by Cal State San Marcos, finishing 12th in the field with 54-hole team scores of 330, 327 and 324.
Senior Brooke Pelletier led the Wildcats with rounds of 79, 76 and 77 to finish tied for 29th, closing strong in the final round with a 39-38. "The conditions were overall very nice, but the wind picked up Monday in the second round and we had to focus on hitting knockdown shots and adjusting," Pelletier said. "The greens were very quick and pure with some tough pin placements, so you really had to be in the right spots." Pelletier added that her putting "worked really well this week," and credited her short game for allowing her to score consistently in the 70s throughout the tournament.
Junior Ariana Blagrove posted rounds of 80, 83 and 82 to finish tied for 52nd. She ranked among the top 10 in the field in birdies made with seven, helping Chico State total 15 birdies over the three rounds combined.
Freshman Gabriella Fanucchi carded rounds of 84-84 in the first two rounds and 86 in the final round to place 66th overall.
Sophomore Sophia Magaña improved each round, shooting 87 in the opening round, 84 in round two and a final-round 81. Magaña fired a 37 on the front nine during her final round and highlighted her day with a nine-hole stretch played at even par, finishing 64th.
Sophomore Hollyn Drennen recorded rounds of 87 and 87 on the first day before bouncing back with an 84 in the final round, including a 40 on the front nine, to finish 68th.
Cal State San Marcos captured the team title, finishing at +17 as a team at its home tournament. The individual medalist honors were shared by Carmella Carlisi of Cal State San Marcos and Lauren Lee of Western Washington, who each finished at +5 to earn co-medalist recognition.
The Wildcats will return to action March 23–24 in Richmond, CA, competing in the Penguin Invite hosted by Dominican at Richmond Golf Club.
