Wildcats Close Out Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout

| By:

Alameda, Calif. – The Chico State women's golf team wrapped up its spring season opener Tuesday at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, finishing 17th in a 19-team field after posting rounds of 318 and 316. The Wildcats improved by two strokes in the second round to close with a 36-hole total of 634.

Head Coach Heather Fegley-Birchmier emphasized course management as a key focus heading into the spring season. Learning how to manage their games and limit big numbers was a major point of emphasis for the team throughout the tournament.

Freshman Sienna Garcia delivered a standout performance in just her second tournament of the season, carding rounds of 77–77 to finish tied for 46th. Her 77 marks the lowest round of her collegiate career. Competing in only her second event with the Wildcats, Garcia said she was "very excited to be with the team and have the opportunity to compete," adding that staying patient and taking it shot by shot was a key factor in her success.

Senior Brooke Pelletier posted scores of 76–79 to finish tied for 50th place. Her final round was highlighted by birdies on two of her last three holes.

Junior Ari Blagrove shot 82–78 to place 70th overall, while Sophomore Sophia Magaña finished tied for 88th after posting rounds of 84–82. Junior Lillian Crays rounded out the Wildcats with rounds of 83–88 to tie for 93th.

Cal State San Marcos captured the team title at 13-under par, while Zoe Garcia of Seattle Pacific and Avery Foster of Cal State San Marcos shared medalist honors at 8-under. Foster ultimately claimed the individual title on the second playoff hole.

Chico State returns to action March 9–10 at the Fujikura Invitational, hosted by Cal State San Marcos at Shadowridge Country Club in Vista, California.
