Wildcats Bounce Back in Second Round at WT Invitational

AMARILLO, Texas – The Chico State women's golf team battled through windy conditions and light afternoon rain at the WT Invitational Monday, playing their first 36-hole day on the season at the La Paloma Course. After opening with a 334 (+50) in the morning round, the Wildcats responded with their lowest team score of the season, a 302 (+18), in round two to finish the day in 14th place.

The 'Cats combined for just three birdies in the opening round but found their rhythm in the afternoon, racking up 12 birdies on the way to their season-best team effort.

Freshman Gabriella Fanucchi led the charge, following an opening 80 (+9) with a career-low 73 (+2) that included a 35 on the front nine. Fanucchi sits tied for 44th heading into Tuesday's final round.

Senior Brooke Pelletier bounced back from an opening 83 (+12) with a 74 (+3) in round two that matched her season low. Her second round featured a five-hole stretch played at 2-under par and included four birdies, leaving her tied for 60th overall.

Junior Ariana Blagrove opened with an 83 (+12) before posting an 81 (+10) in the afternoon to sit in 72nd place. Sophomore Hollyn Drennen improved by eight strokes from her first round, shooting an 80 (+9) after an opening 88, and is in 76th.

Freshman Isabella Morelock made a positive impression in her first collegiate tournament. After an opening 88 (+17), she bounced back with a 75 (+4) in the afternoon to move to 71st place.

The Wildcats return to La Paloma Course Tuesday morning for the final round of the WT Invitational, looking to carry the momentum from their strong second round into the tournament's finish.
