HAYWARD, CALIF. – The Chico State women's golf team opened play Monday at the East Bay Fall Invitational, hosted by Cal State East Bay at Stonebrae Country Club. The Wildcats finished the day in 14th place after round two was suspended due to darkness. Chico State posted a 337 (+49) in the opening round and was at +41 in the second round.
Senior Brooke Pelletier led Chico State with a first-round 80 (+8), highlighted by a 35 on the back nine. She followed with an 82 (+10) in the second round and sits tied for 47th heading into Tuesday.
Freshman Gabriella Fanucchi shot an 84 (+12) in the morning that included a 39 on the back nine and is currently 11-over in her second round, sitting in 59th place. Fanucchi said one thing that was working well for her was her driver and that she was "able to put myself in good position off the tee." Heading into the final round, she added that she's looking to improve on her "putting and approach shots."
Senior Sophia Magaña posted an 89 (+17) in round one and is 5-over in the second round, including an even-par back nine, to sit tied for 56th. Magaña said her "mental game kept [her] focused throughout the day," and in the second round she "was able to dial in on shots and get putts to drop."
Freshman Isabella Morelock opened with an 84 (+12) and is 15-over in round two to sit tied for 66th. Junior Lillian Crays shot 90 (+18) in the first round and is 21-over in her unfinished second round, currently tied for 75th.
Chico State sits in 14th place heading into Tuesday's completion of round two and the final round of the East Bay Fall Invitational.
