Wildcats Wrap Season with Pair of Ninth-Place Finishes at NCAA Championships

| By:

PUEBLO, Colo. — The Chico State men's track & field team wrapped up its 2025 season Saturday with two strong performances at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, though both fell just shy of making the podium.

With severe weather forecasted for the evening, meet officials adjusted the championship schedule, moving all events to earlier time slots at Colorado State Pueblo's ThunderBowl. Chico State's final two entries—Damian Garcia in the 1,500 meters and the 4x400-meter relay team—both finished ninth in their respective events.

Garcia opened his race in ninth position and surged into fourth by the 700-meter mark. However, the junior slipped back in the latter stages before battling to the line, crossing in 3:42.19—good for ninth overall in one of the deepest fields in the nation.

Later in the day, the 4x400-meter relay team of Quincy Patton, Brody Staley, Vincent Rinaldi, and Trey Suffredini clocked a time of 3:09.00. The Wildcats were in seventh place through the 1,200-meter mark before being edged out in the anchor leg by Angelo State to finish just outside of scoring position.

With Saturday's performances, Garcia and the relay team officially close the book on the 2025 track & field season for Chico State.
