SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Coming off a bye weekend, the Chico State men's track & field team returned to action Friday and Saturday, participating in Sacramento State's Hornet Invitational.

In a field that featured teams from all collegiate levels, many Wildcats came up with top-10 finishes in their respective events.

Damian Garcia took the win in the 5,000-meter run out of 57 participants, running a personal-record time of 14:00.05 to earn himself an NCAA Division II provisional stamp. Also making the top 10 in the event are Jesus Villarreal (seventh), Brayden McLaughlin (eighth) and Travis Selby (10
th).

Hunter Dougherty also earned a provisional mark in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, running in 9:08.43 for second place in his season debut in the event. Adrian Hipolito took third in the event with a personal-record time of 9:11.91. Although he had a respectable finish, Hipolito missed the provisional time by 0.26 seconds. Anders Beil also had a top 10 placing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, taking eighth in 9:30.38.

Donovan Marshall is another Wildcat that came close to achieving a provisional in the 400-meter hurdles. He finished fifth in 53.41 while missing the mark by 0.26 seconds. Nathan Witte took eighth and Giovanni Larrea took ninth to round out the top finish in the event.

Chance Hefter made two top 10 places. He took sixth in the shot put in 16.25 meters while taking seventh in the discus throw with a distance of 48.58 meters. Beau Gleeson took ninth in the discus, throwing for 46.65 meters.

Brody Staley had two top 10 places as well. In the 400-meter dash, Staley ran 47.75 for seventh place. He would team up with Quincy Patton, Vincent Rinaldi and Trey Suffredini in the 4x400-meter relay, taking third in 3:14.05.

Over in the hammer throw, Tyler St. Laurent threw for 52.43 meters to place fifth and Tad Desembrana reached 49.57 meters to take seventh.

Rounding out the top 10 finishers is Ronin Tidd, who placed sixth in the javelin with a distance of 50.56 meters.

Chico State will head further north of the state to participate in Cal Poly Humboldt's Invitational at the Redwood Bowl next Saturday. It will be the Wildcats' first trip to Arcata since 2017.
