Wildcats Fully Underway at NorCal Preview

OROVILLE, Calif. – After officially opening the season at home with the Chico State Multis Thursday and Friday, the rest of the Wildcat men's track & field team got into full swing on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the Butte College NorCal Preview.
 
The Wildcats took first in nine events. The most notable win was the 4x100 relay. Not only did the team of Willshawn Rusthon-Grisby, Vincent Rinaldi, Brody Staley and CJ Smith win the event, they found their way into the record book in their first attempt at the 4x100 relay. The quartet ran a 41.30 to tie the 10th best mark in program history set in 1987.
 
In the sprinting events, Staley and Rinaldi came up winners in the 200 and 400-meter dashes, respectively. Donovan Marshall in his freshman season, won the 110-meter hurdles in an even 15 seconds while Giovanni Larrea took home the win in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.37.
 
The 4x400 relay team of Suffredini, Rinaldi, Quincy Patton and Staley were winners of the event, with a combination time of 3:14.21.
 
In the field events, Niko Lawrence won the high jump in 1.95 meters and was followed by teammates Alex Valcarenghi and Carson Robenalt. Over in the pole vault, Matthew Rodriguez won that event with a reach of 4.75 meters, beating teammate Jose Sandoval's 4.57 meters.
 
The javelin department saw three Wildcats take the podium. Ronin Tidd won the event with 49.56 meters of distance to narrowly beat Max House's 49.35 and Brady Giles' 40.99.

The Wildcats will head over to Turlock for Stanislaus State's Kim Duyst Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
