BERKELEY – The Chico State men's track & field team made a return trip to the Bay Area Saturday, only this time visiting the University of California's Edwards Stadium for the Brutus Hamilton Invitational.

In a field that featured fellow CCAA foes Cal State LA along with the host Golden Bears and their Pac-12 members, the Wildcats got a dozen top-10 finishers. The relay team of Trey Suffredini, Vincent Rinaldi, Demetre Coffey and Ty Thomson highlight the 'Cats with a win in the 4x400-meter relay, running a combined time of 3:13.52. They missed the program's top mark on the season by 0.34 seconds.

Chance Hefter did set the team's new season-best in the shot put, throwing as far as 16.65 meters to best his previous mark of 16.43. Haas also beat his own best time on the season in the 100-meter dash. He ran a 10.79 to top his previous time of 10.81. Giovanni Larrea was not only the top finisher in the 400m hurdles among NCAA Division II runners, he also set a new best of 53.62.

Vincent Rinaldi now holds the team's best time in the 200-meter dash on the season, running a 21.40 to beat Demetre Coffey's 21.64.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Haas, Vincent Rinaldi, Coffey and Luke Ramsay also came up short from the season-high. The quartet ran a 41.59 and was only 0.9 seconds short.

The Wildcats make their first of two trips to Southern California next week, participating in Azusa Pacific's popular Bryan Clay Invitational Thursday-Saturday. Some members on Saturday will also be making a short drive to the University of La Verne for the Leopard Invitational.
