PALM DESERT – Chico State freshman Kaylie Parola turned in a 76 to match her collegiate-best round performance and finished in a tie for fourth at the Augustana Spring Fling Friday afternoon.

The Wildcats closed out the busiest week in their 2023-24 schedule with a 640 in the tournament, tying Westminster for fifth. Going through a second trip through the 6,003-yard, par-72 Desert Willow Golf Resort, Chico State combined for a team score of 313, shooting well below its season average of 323.64.

In a shotgun format, Parola teed off from the 16th hole. She birdied the par-4 but got into trouble with a triple bogie in the 17th hole. She made up for it by making another birdie on the par-5 19th hole and made par in the first three holes on the course. Parola got back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh holes while making par in the eighth and ninth to close out the tournament.

Brooke Pelletier got off to a rough start from the 15th hole. But after she finished the 18th hole and moved over to the front-9, Pelletier was solid, making par in 11 of 12 holes while getting a birdie on a par-3 13th hole. She ended her day scoring a 78 in the round and a 163 in the tournament.

Kelly More turned in a 79 in her final trip through the course. She made par 11 times and birdied a par-3 13th hole. Coupled with her 80 score, More finished with a 159 to place her in a tie for 15th. Ariana Blagrove scored an 80 on the day, making three birdies and coming up even in five holes. Trinity Hernandez rounded out the Wildcats with an 83. She made a birdie on a par-5 in the ninth hole and was the only Wildcat to do that. She also made par six times.

Augustana took the tournament win with a team score of 627. The Vikings were the only team to score under 300 in a single round in the tournament, for they combined for 298. Their No. 1 Molly Stevens took medalist honors with a 4-over 148. She was also the only individual to finish under par in the tournament, scoring a 1-under 71 in the second round.

The 'Cats will be making the first of two trips to Sonoma County in April. The first trip will be to Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park for the Sonoma State Spring Invite on April 8 followed by the CCAA Championships held at the Santa Rosa Golf Club April 22-24.
