Wildcats Unable to Hold Off Pioneers in East Bay

11/1/2024 10:49:00 PM

Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. - The Wildcats could not hold onto the early lead against the Pioneers, as the home side slots two away in the second half.

With the loss in Hayward, Chico State women's soccer has had their CCAA championship chances slashed, with two games remaining in the conference season. The Wildcats will need to claim two wins and, with favorable results across the conference, could slip into the conversation in fourth through sixth.

Avery Pieri scored her sixth goal of the campaign, the third in two games, in the 6th minute with a strike from the top of the box that skipped over the Pioneer keeper. Jordan Brail and Madison Schuler nabbed assists with the first-half goal.

Schuler had her second assist in her freshman season, while Brail tallied her first.

There was no lack of offensive pressure from Chico State, firing 19 shots at the Pioneer goal with 12 shots on goal. Hannah Pieri had an intense six shots, with four of them forcing saves from the keeper—the Orangevale native continued to pepper the net with chances in hopes for a deflection falling for a teammate to pounce on.

Eight separate Wildcats found the stat sheet with shots; Natalie Mendoza (4), Brynn Howard (2), and Avery Pieri (4) all recorded multiple shots.

Seven of the 'Cats played the full 90 minutes in Hayward.

The Wildcats will travel south to San Marcos for their final Southern California trip, with the match set to kick off on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in The Cage.
