As the majority of both the Chico State men's and women's track & field teams stayed home this weekend to prepare for a pair of upcoming Bay Area meets, a handful of Wildcat hurdlers ventured to San Luis Obispo Saturday to compete in the Mark Conover Classic. The 'Cats delivered several outstanding performances, including an NCAA Provisional qualifying time by Parker Williams, in action at the Miller and Capriotti Athletics Complex on the campus of Cal Poly.
Â
Williams finished second by just .03 seconds in the men's 110-meter hurdles, but still recorded a season-best time of 14.45 seconds, good for the NCAA Provisional mark. Williams' effort was only .02 seconds off his personal best time of 14.43 seconds, posted at last year's Fresno State Invitational.
Â
Alexis Hinojosa also notched a second place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles, Â posting a time of 15.04 seconds.
Â
Williams was back late Saturday afternoon, toeing the starting line with fellow Wildcat Giovanni Larrea in the men's 400-meter hurdles. Williams again placed second, stopping the clock at 54.99 seconds and finishing just .13 seconds behind Fresno Pacific hurdler Cullin Bates. Larrea logged a fifth place finish with a time of 58.62 seconds.
Â
Chloe Taylor, who already this season set a new Chico State women's track & field record in the 400-meter hurdles, concluded the day for the Wildcats with a second place finish in the event, clocking in at 1:01.65.
Â
The Chico State men's and women's track & field teams will be in the Bay Area next week to take part Thursday through Saturday at the San Francisco State-hosted Mike Fanelli Track Classic, as well as Friday and Saturday at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto.
