Chico State Women's Soccer Head Coach Kim Sutton compiled a tough schedule for her sophomore heavy group in 2022. So far her team has exhibited a lot to be happy with while getting off to a 2-1-1 start. The challenges continue this weekend when Chico State hosts unbeaten Azusa Pacific and a Biola team picked to finish fifth in the PacWest Conference. The Wildcats host Azusa Pacific Thursday at 7 p.m. and Biola Saturday at 12:30. Prior to Saturday's match, Cal Poly Humboldt and Azusa Pacific will play in a neutral site game at University Soccer Stadium at 10 a.m.
Chico State, which opened the season with a 6-0 drubbing of Academy of Art, followed that up with a scoreless draw at Fresno Pacific before heading north for a two-match trip to Washington. The Wildcats beat Central Washington 2-0 last Thursday before falling to 5
th-ranked Seattle Pacific 1-0 Saturday.
That loss, which the Wildcats felt they controlled for much of the way, left a bitter taste in the team's mouth, and they're chomping at the bit to get back out on the pitch. Azusa Pacific presents a major challenge, however. The Cougars are 2-0-1 and coming off wins against Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A.
Biola, meanwhile, is 1-2-1, having drawn 0-0 at Cal State Monterey Bay, lost 1-0 at Cal State East Bay, won 3-2 against Cal State San Bernardino, and lost 2-0 at Stanislaus State. Biola will play at Cal Poly Humboldt Thursday.
Chico State is tied atop the California Collegiate Athletic Association in goals-against average at 0.25 and ranks second in shots taken with 80.
