’Cats look to ride momentum into this weekend’s CCAA conference openers

Chico State women’s soccer hosts Cal State San Bernardino Friday and Cal State San Marcos Sunday

The Chico State women's soccer team's non-conference slate has been a very productive one to say the least. With four victories and 20 goals scored in their first six matches, the Wildcats have shown the potential of being a very special squad. With the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) schedule beginning this weekend, it's officially "rubber hits the road" time as the 'Cats look to continue their winning ways when they host conference openers against Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State San Marcos at University Soccer Stadium.

Chico State welcomes in San Bernardino Friday for a 7 p.m. match, then takes on Cal State San Marcos Sunday at 2 p.m.

Fans can follow the action of both matches online. Links to live stats and streaming video will be available at chicowildcats.com on the homepage and men's soccer schedule page.

Fans planning on attending in person are asked to follow Chico State's health and safety measures for intercollegiate athletic events:
  • Venue capacity is limited to 50% of the listed capacity for each facility.
  • Spectators must follow campus health and safety guidelines: symptom check and mask indoors; mask outdoors where physical distancing cannot be achieved.
  • Spectators will be limited to seating areas (bleachers and stands).
  • At the end of the competition, spectators are asked to leave the venue immediately and wait outside the venue to greet participants.
  • No spectators are allowed in team areas, including the playing area, bench, hallways, athletic training room, locker rooms, etc.
Chico State is 4-1-1 on the season and is unbeaten in its last four contests. As a result, the Wildcats are currently ranked No. 25 among Division II schools in the latest United Soccer Coaches National Top 25 poll.

Last Saturday, the Wildcats played to a 1-1 draw with Humboldt State in a non-conference match in Arcata.

There is extra incentive for the Wildcats to win this weekend. The next Chico State victory will be the 250th NCAA victory for head coach Kim Sutton, a milestone that , entering Friday's action, includes 194 "W's" with the 'Cats.

Chico State boasts two of the top scorers in the CCAA, with Susanna Garcia and Madison Parsons tied for the conference lead with four goals apiece. In assists, Kelli Litchfield, Camille Lidster, and Natalie Mendoza are all tied for second in the CCAA with three each.

Cal State San Bernardino is 2-4 overall heading into Friday's match with the Wildcats. The Coyotes have struggled a bit offensively, having scored just four goals so far this season and have suffered shutouts in their last three matches. In a non-conference contest last Saturday, San Bernardino was blanked by Cal State San Marcos 2-0.

Cal State San Marcos, which takes on the 'Cats Sunday following a Friday road match against Humboldt State, is off to a strong start in the 2021 campaign. The Cougars are 4-0, and have allowed just one opposing goal so far this season. San Marcos has already logged three shutouts, including last Saturday's blanking of Cal State San Bernardino.
