Twenty-seven coaches in the history of NCAA Division II women's soccer have done it. Only seventeen are still coaching. Saturday, the Chico State women's soccer team will try to push Head Coach Kim Sutton into their esteemed clubs with her 250
th victory at the NCAA Division II level when the Wildcats take on Humboldt State in Arcata at 3 p.m.
Â
It would be a fitting place for it to happen. Sutton was the first coach of Humboldt State's women's soccer team, from 1995–2000, before taking over at Chico State, where she has been ever since. She went 55-42-14 at Humboldt State and has compiled a record of 194-126-59 at Chico State.
Â
This season has been one of her most unique as a head coach, after the program went without a season in 2020. But Sutton's team is rolling despite its relative youth and inexperience, off to a 4-1 start. The Wildcats, ranked No. 5 in the West Region, have outscored their opponents 19-4.
Â
Humboldt State, meanwhile, is 3-2-1. The Lumberjacks are 1-0-1 at home.
