POMONA—Sarah Emigh is the student-athlete with the most impressive academic credentials at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament finals site for the second time in her illustrious five-year Chico State women's soccer career. The senior nursing and psychology student boasts the highest grade point average among all CCAA Tournament semifinal competitors with at least 60 college credits.
Formerly known as the CCAA Championship Scholar Award, the CCAA Elite 13 Award recognizes the academic and athletic achievements of one student-athlete at each CCAA-sponsored Championship. The winner must be a junior academically in at least her second year of competition at her current institution, and an active member on the official championship roster.
Emigh was the CCAA Championship Scholar Award winner in 2018 as a sophomore, prior to the changes to the award structure that went into effect for 2021–22. Thursday, Emigh was named a CoSIDA Academic All-West Region selection for the third year in a row. Earlier Friday, she earned her third All-CCAA honor in a row for her play on the pitch.
She is scheduled to graduate with her psychology and nursing degrees in the fall of 2022.
"Sarah is such a professional, engaged responsible student," said Holly Kralj, Emigh's professor in Maternal-Child Nursing. "She has worked hard to balance an incredibly demanding clinical and academic schedule with her student-athlete commitments. The nurses who have worked with her in clinical say she is a gem and they wish she could be there all the time. She is just an all-around lovely person!"
