Face Cal State East Bay in opening round of CCAA Tournament Friday at 4

POMONA—Few teams have been as successful as the Chico State women's soccer squad in 2021. None have had more fun. The scooter-riding, birthday surprising, creative 'Cats have broken records (seven straight shutouts), helped Head Coach Kim Sutton reach milestones (250 career wins and 200 at Chico State) and racked up double-digit wins to secure a spot in the postseason. A scroll through the team's social media accounts is highly recommended. The laughter and smiles are a reflection of the program's values. This team is committed to having a good time.

The Wildcats are also serious about winning, as their 10-2-5 record indicates. Their commitments to camaraderie and kicking butt have combined to lead them to the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament semifinals where they will face Cal State East Bay Friday at 4 p.m. on the campus of Cal Poly Pomona. The winner of that match will face the Cal State LA-Sonoma State winner for the CCAA Tournament title and the automatic berth in the NCAA Championship Tournament that goes with it on Sunday at 1 p.m. Catch the games on the CCAA Network via links at www.ChicoWildcats.com.

A win Friday would serve to get the Wildcats into the CCAA Tournament final and also beef up their already strong NCAA Tournament resume. Chico State is ranked No. 6 in the West Region. Six teams will earn berth: the winners of the CCAA and Great Northwest Athletic Conference Tournaments; the winner of the Pacific West Conference regular-season title; and three at-large teams. The NCAA Tournament field will be announced Monday at 3 p.m. on NCAA.com.

The Wildcats beat Cal State East Bay on October 14 in Hayward. It marked the second of seven consecutive shutouts they put together before Humboldt State ended the streak Thursday. Antonia Diaz scored the lone goal of the match in the 80th minute, a gorgeous volley following up Camille Lidster's try from distance that clanged off the crossbar.

The Wildcats beat Sonoma State 1-0 on October 25 in a match played at Pleasant Valley High School in Chico. Susanna Garcia got the game-winning goal, assisted by Lidster, and Emma Hofmann made seven saves. Chico State took down Cal State LA 2-0 on October 29 in Los Angeles. Hofmann made seven saves and Garcia and Lidster each scored.
