With 35 seasons in the rearview mirror, it takes a special drive to make history in the Chico State women's soccer program. The 2018 Wildcats are one challenging trip away from arriving at such a place, having opened the season unbeaten through their first eight matches.
Â
The Wildcats would tie the program record for consecutive matches without a loss with results (a win or tie) on the road at Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona this weekend. The 1992 team played 10 consecutive matches without losing.
Â
Much like the 1992 squad, which posted a school-record 13 shutouts, this team is doing it with defense. They have allowed only four goals (and never more than one in a match) and posted four shutouts through eight matches.
Â
The 1992 Wildcats were the first Chico State women's soccer team to win a conference title and first to reach the NCAA Championship Tournament. The 2018 team is hoping that its solid start marks the beginning of something special as well.

Wildcats News
The Wildcats won two in a row on the road last weekend to stretch their regular-season road winning streak to five. Friday at Cal State Monterey Bay, defender Korie Bozart notched the lone goal of the match and helped spur a shutout in a 1-0 win. Sunday, Aiden Williams' first collegiate goal gave the Wildcats the lead in the first half and Jordan Doukakis doubled it in the second as the Wildcats beat Cal State East Bay 2-1 in Hayward. In doing so, the Wildcats moved into a tie at the top of the California Collegiate Athletic Association's table one third of the way through the conference slate. Â
Â
Chico State is now 4-0-4 overall and 3-0-1 in the CCAA.
Â
At 4-0-4 overall and off to a 3-0-1 start in California Collegiate Athletic Association, thanks to three straight wins, the Wildcats are one of three remaining unbeaten teams in the CCAA, joining 24
th-ranked Sonoma State and the nation's top-ranked team, UC San Diego. Â

Â
The Wildcats were among six teams to receive votes outside of the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 this week. They remained unmoved to No. 5 in the West Region. They boast a record of 0-0-3 against teams ranked in their respective regions, having drawn against West No. 6 Seattle Pacific, West No. 8 Cal State LA, and South Central No. 1 Colorado School of the Mines.
Â
Chico State goalkeepers Brenna Meier and Vic Graham have combined to rank 13
th in the nation with a combined save percentage of .911. The defense currently ranks No. 22 in the nation and first in the CCAA with a 0.45 goals-against average. Both marks top the CCAA. Meier is 17
th nationally and tops the CCAA in goals-against average (0.353). She ranks 23
rd in the nation in save percentage (.889).
Â
Chico State's Erin Woods, who scored her first three goals of the season last weekend, ranks among the CCAA's leaders in a number of categories. Woods is third in shots per match (4.33), tied for fifth in points per match (1.00), and sixth in goals per match (0.50).
Â
The Wildcats' offense has come around nicely of late, tallying nine times in the past five matches. They have done it with a balanced attack. Ten different players have notched at least one goal and/or assist.
Â
Following Sunday's match, the Wildcats will wrap up the regular season with four of their last six at home.
Scouting the Opponents
Cal State San Bernardino (2-5-0, 1-1-0 CCAA)—By the close of this weekend, the Coyotes will have played seven of their first nine matches at home. But they have struggled on their home pitch, having dropped four of five. Their lone home win came last Friday against Cal Poly Pomona.
Â
Cal State San Bernardino's defense has had its struggles so far, having allowed multiple goals in five of their seven matches.
Â
The Coyotes are coming off a 6-9-2 season in which they finished ninth in the CCAA at 4-7-1.
Â
Chico State leads the all-time series 14-9-3. The Wildcats won last season's meeting in Chico 1-0, keyed to Juliana Los' first collegiate goal.
Cal Poly Pomona (4-3-1, 0-1-1 CCAA)—The Broncos, ranked No. 10 in the West, will take on Stanislaus State Friday evening before welcoming the Wildcats to town on Sunday. They have a 2-1-1 home mark thus far.
Â
Like Chico State, Cal Poly Pomona has posted four shutouts through its first eight matches.
Â
The Broncos are coming off a 10-6-2 campaign in which they finished 6-4-2 in the CCAA and grabbed the sixth and final berth in the CCAA Tournament.
Â
Chico State leads the series 18-12-4 and has won four of the last five meetings. Last season, Doukakis produced a goal and assist in the Wildcats' 3-1 win. In the last matchup in Pomona, in 2015, current Chico State leading scorer Erin Woods logged her first collegiate goal in the Wildcats' 3-2 victory.
