Wildcats News
At 2-0-4 overall and off to a 1-0-1 start in California Collegiate Athletic Association, the Wildcats are one of three remaining unbeaten teams in the CCAA.

For the second week in a row, the Wildcats rose one spot in the United Soccer Coaches West Region poll. They enter this weekend ranked No. 5 and boast a record of 0-0-3 against teams ranked in their respective regions, having drawn against West No. 6 Seattle Pacific, West No. 7 Cal State LA, and South Central No. 1 Colorado School of the Mines.

Chico State's defense carried it through the first part of the campaign and currently ranks No. 19 in the nation and first in the CCAA with a 0.435 goals-against average. Goalkeeper Brenna Meier, who has started and finished four of the Wildcats' first six matches, ranks first in the CCAA and 24th in the nation with a goals-against average of 0.429.

Chico State's Erin Woods, who scored her first three goals of the season last weekend, ranks among the CCAA's leaders in a number of categories. Woods is third in shots per match (4.33), tied for fifth in points per match (1.00), and sixth in goals per match (0.50).

The Wildcats' offense has come around nicely of late, tallying six goals in the past three matches.

Scouting the Opponents
Cal State Monterey Bay (2-3-0, 0-2-0 CCAA)—The Otters, who finished 12th in the CCAA last season, endured a tough road trip to open conference play last weekend, falling 6-1 at UC San Diego and 1-0 at Cal State San Marcos.

Cal State Monterey Bay is coming off a 5-9-4 (2-8-2 CCAA) season in 2017. The Otters were picked by the conference's coaches to finish 10th in this year's preseason poll.

Chico State leads the all-time series between the squads 19-3-0. The Wildcats have won four of the last five matchups, including last season's 4-0 Senior Day victory in Chico.

Cal State East Bay (5-2-0, 0-2-0 CCAA)—The Pioneers are coming off a 4-12-2 campaign in which they finished 1-9-2 and in 13th place in the CCAA. The conference's coaches picked them to finish 13th once again in 2018. But they clearly have a different plan in mind after opening the season with five straight victories before dropping their first two conference matches of the season last weekend at Cal State San Marcos (2-0) and UC San Diego (2-1).

Chico State leads the series against its former Northern California Athletic Conference rivals (Cal State East Bay was known as Cal State Hayward back then) 26-11-3. After dropping the first eight matches in the series, the Wildcats have gone 25-0-3 against the Pioneers since 1990, including 8-0-3 since the Pioneers joined the CCAA in 2009.

They played to a 1-1 draw last season. Sarah Emigh gave the Wildcats the lead in the 65th minute on Jordan Doukakis' corner kick assist, but Abby Buitrago—who has scored four of the Pioneers' 10 goals this season—notched the equalizer in the 75th minute.

The Pioneers will open the weekend at home against Stanislaus State Friday.
